Assessment for Selection and Development

Selection and Development Technologies Ltd offers a unique process – ‘ERST’ – which specifically addresses issues of behaviour, thereby significantly enhancing information provided by traditional personality inventories alone. ERST produces a more relevant and meaningful projection of on-the-job behaviour with which to assess the suitability of candidates and likely fit with colleagues, as well as identifying the individual’s ability to flex behaviour to meet the needs of a future senior position.

Why is a process such as ours important for recruitment?

Many personality tests will provide valuable information about an individual’s most natural personal characteristics. However, they will not always indicate how he or she will behave in a constrained setting, such as the workplace, where there will be expectations about attitude and behaviour – such as conformance to an employer’s culture and standards. Thus, it’s important to analyse how aware each person is of the impact of his or her typical behaviours on others. ERST provides a mechanism to interrogate the individual’s ability to adapt his or her behaviour to optimise interpersonal outcomes and deliver increased value to his or her contribution.

What are the benefits in development situations?

Highlighting responsiveness to specific situations or work contexts and the critical shortfall against what is actually required focuses development planning more closely on the specific behavioural changes required to meet that shortfall. In addition, it can serve to make the individual more aware of their own strengths and how effective they are at utilising them. Thus, the analysis and discussion element of the process is not about weaknesses but about potential and how to enhance it.
